When I tell people that I am a perinatal mental Health Counselor, they often times ask me what that is. The true definition of the word perinatal is, the time around pregnancy through the postpartum period. From conception up to one year postpartum. It also includes everything surrounding that time, including, trying to get pregnant and the transitions we go through during parenthood.
Essentially I work in helping people navigate anything to do with motherhood, from decoding to try to have a baby, infertility, loss, the pregnancy itself, and the postpartum period . People need support and understanding during these times and if someone is experiencing symptoms of anxiety or depression, help is needed for them.
